The Oak Run History Group’s 2011 Heritage Day and parade on July 2, were a rousing success again this year. Centered on the shady grounds of the Oak Run School, the festivities drew an overflow crowd of happy, hungry participants who cheered on the parade entries and then stayed for lunch.
This year’s parade fielded 20 entries, predominantly classic cars, both restored and not, and wagon floats–one horse-drawn, two pulled by trucks. There was also one vintage tractor with garlands on its rear wheels, one horseback rider, and one walking entry. The parade was led by motorcycle riders from the Patriot Guard and Tully’s Raiders, followed by a float filled with members of the VFW Fountain Memorial Post #275 from Round Mountain, pulled by History Group president Jack Keeton, who is also a VFW member. Everything and everyone was decked out in Fourth of July red, white and blue.
