'Sweet street': Keystone candy maker draws fans

People visit Keystone for its famous faces.

They stick around for its sweet places.

Locals know — and newcomers soon find out  — that no visit to Mount Rushmore is complete without sampling Keystone’s “Sweet Street.”

The historic mining town’s main drag is home to several candy makers who satisfy sweet tooths from near and far.

“Some people come back year after year,” said Jeff Stverak, owner of Rushmore Mountain Taffy at 203 Winter St.

The taffy shop features a classic taffy-pulling machine that is visible through the front window.
